NORWOOD, N.C. (WBTV) – A solar power company with roots in North Carolina is facing hundreds of complaints and lawsuits and is even facing an investigation from the Missouri Attorney General. Consumers owe millions of dollars in loan payments for solar systems they say don’t work.
WBTV filed a records request and found more than 80 complaints filed in North Carolina against Pink Energy, formerly Power Home Solar.
Alexander Peets is one of Pink’s clients who filed a complaint with the NCDOJ.
Peets told WBTV that she spent a lot of time dealing with the expensive and dangerous mess left in her home.

“The first time they said it wasn’t handled properly,” Peets said.
WBTV filed a records request and found more than 80 complaints filed in North Carolina against Pink Energy, formerly Power Home Solar.
“I actually had a tech come here and tell me he couldn’t believe my house didn’t burn down.”
Power Home Solar started in Mooresville but was recently renamed Pink Energy and appears to be operating out of Michigan now, although North Carolina state business records still show the company as Mooresville.
“I thought, go to that place. How can you get lost?” Peets told WBTV.
But according to his complaint, Peets is missing out big time.
An installation that should have taken less than a week dragged on for eight months.
When the project was “completed” the solar panels were supposed to bring his bill down to $50 a month, according to his sales rep.
“I still have $300.00 a month in electric bills. That’s what I was trying to avoid,” said Peets.
He says the panels “do not work at all” and instead of saving money, he is paying thousands for nothing.
“I’m really stuck with a $70,000 system and a loan over my head that I’m not getting any benefit from,” Peets said.
Peets are not alone. More than 80 complaints have been filed with the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office where consumers say they have more than $2 million in combined loans for procedures that should have saved them money but didn’t.
“We end up with a lot of companies across the country, with salespeople who have less than enough training,” Gabe Amey said.
Gabe Amey is a sales manager at Cape Fear Solar Systems. He spoke to sister station WBTV WECT about all the work he’s had to take on solar jobs after the reality doesn’t live up to the promises of sales gimmicks.
“They are not sure what they are really offering. They’re only given limited information about what to sell and the priority becomes selling more, selling faster,” Amey said.
Pink Energy is facing an investigation from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, which has issued a demand for an investigation “regarding its practices in the sale and installation of solar panels.”
There are more than a dozen lawsuits filed against Pink by consumers and subcontractors in 2022 alone.
As lawsuits and investigations begin to build, consumers like the Peets just want to be released from the messy situation and for North Carolina to join Missouri in finding answers and justice for consumers.
“Some government agency needs to look into it. I mean one has to,” Peets said.
In response to questions about consumer complaints about sales tactics and faulty processes, a spokesperson for Pink Energy sent WBTV a prepared response to the lawsuit Pink has filed against its battery supplier, Generac.
The North Carolina Attorney General’s Office told WBTV that the office “reviews each complaint and is working with the company to resolve these issues on behalf of NC consumers.”
