Renewable energy is poised to hit a milestone as a new government report suggests that wind, solar and other renewable sources will outpace one quarter of the country’s electricity for the first time, by 2024.
This is one of many details from the federal government’s Short Term Energy Outlook, a monthly report whose latest edition is the first to include an outlook for 2024. For him to be right, wind and solar will need to find solutions to the challenges they’ve had in getting parts; they need to make progress in dealing with local opposition to many projects and to own interstate power lines to deliver electricity. And, new policies like the Inflation Reduction Act will need to have requirements to encourage projects through the use of tax incentives.
It’s not too far-fetched to imagine that clean energy businesses will make some progress on all of those fronts.
