In a significant leap for space technology, Sierra Space, a pioneer in the commercial space sector and a rising star in defense technology, has equipped Sidus Space’s inaugural LizzieSat satellite with state-of-the-art solar panels. Launched into Low Earth Orbit on March 4 during SpaceX’s Transporter-10 Rideshare mission, LizzieSat is now operational, thanks to Sierra Space’s cutting-edge solar technology.
Demonstrating remarkable efficiency, Sierra Space delivered eight deployable solar panels and a top plate, custom-designed for LizzieSat, in a record time of 49 days from contract signing to hardware delivery. This achievement highlights the company’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of space exploration and its capability to meet stringent deadlines without compromising quality.
Rusty Thomas, Sierra Space’s Chief Technology Officer and SVP/GM of Space Applications, stated, “Our rigorous testing protocols before shipping ensured that the solar panels were mission-ready. This collaboration with Sidus Space is a testament to the power of innovation and teamwork in advancing the frontier of space technology.”
Employing advanced electronics manufacturing techniques, Sierra Space has revolutionized solar array production. The company’s proprietary solar cells, known for their high power density and resilience, are a testament to its engineering excellence. Manufactured in Louisville, CO, the solar panels were transported safely to Sidus Space in Cape Canaveral, FL, marking a seamless transition from production to deployment.
Sidus Space’s LizzieSat, now communicating with its operators post-launch, is set to transform space-based data collection and analysis. Integrating innovative solutions like the Space Platform with a Purpose and FeatherEdge AI, LizzieSat aims to expand Sidus Space’s reach across both military and commercial industries, providing bespoke intelligence services for sectors including defense, agriculture, maritime, and oil and gas.
