Finnish technology group Wartsila Corp (HEL:WRT1V) has been selected to provide a 15-MW/30-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for a solar plant of Tampa Electric Company (TECO) in Florida.
The BESS will be built for a 25-MW solar plant in Dover, Florida and is expected to be ready by the autumn of 2024. It will mark TECO’s second utility-scale energy storage facility, according to a press release published today.
The contracted battery will include Wartsila’s fully integrated, modular and compact energy storage system GridSolv Quantum. It will be equipped with the Nordic firm’s energy management system GEMS Digital Energy Platform to control its dispatch.
On Monday, TECO announced that it has switched on four new solar plants, bringing its operational solar portfolio to 1.25 GW. The newly commissioned assets included Dover Solar in Hillsborough County, Juniper Solar in Pasco County, and Alafia Solar and Lake Mabel Solar, both in Polk County.
The 25-MW Dover Solar spans 177 acres. The facility is equipped with 68,718 panels which generate enough power to meet the needs of 3,826 homes.
